Mexican fruit flies (an invasive species) feed on citrus fruit. A species is considered invasive when it is nonnative to the ecosystem and its introduction causes or is likely to cause economic or environmental harm or harm to human health. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has proclaimed April to be Invasive Plant Pest and Disease Awareness Month.
