Baby African Elephants are about the cutest creatures on earth! I'm so glad the San Diego Zoological Society took in Kamille's mom and the other 6 elephants scheduled to be killed by the government of Swaziland.

Demoiselle Cranes (Anthropoides virgo) in San Diego Wild Animal Park.
Quite amazing (Wikipedia) fact: "Demoiselle Cranes have to take one of the toughest migrations in the world. In late August through September, they gather in flocks of up to 400 individuals and prepare for their flight to their winter range. During their migratory flight south, Demoiselles fly like all cranes, with their head and neck straight forward and their feet and legs straight behind, reaching altitudes of 16,000-26,000 feet (4,875-7,925 m). Along their arduous journey they have to cross the Himalayan mountains to get to their over wintering grounds in India, many die from fatigue, hunger and predation from birds such as eagles... ...In Khichan in India, villagers feed the Cranes on their migration and these large congregations have become an annual spectacle".

This Juvenile Bald Eagle was sat close to the wire mesh fence that kept it from freedom... not that it could have flown away as the Bald Eagles at the Wild Animal Park are all rescued animals that had been injured and unable to fly, so at least they are safe and secure. It is hoped that this juvenile will recover well enough to be released back to the wild at some stage.
It was nice to be able to see such a young bird up close as opposed to way off in the distance through a 300mm lens at maximum zoom!

We have visited Veszprém Zoo last weekend.
Its name comes from its characteristic black and white striped tail. Its tail, which is longer than its body, is partly used for balance and also keeps the group together in the tall grass. It feels at home not only among the trees in the forest, but also likes staying on the ground. It is social animal; femals even bring up their young together. It eats leaves, flowers, fruit and sometimes arthropods.
One of its favorite activities is sunbathing. there are two groups in Veszprém ZOO: one breeding group and a group of males only on the lemur trail.
