This is one of my favorite animal. There are a lot in my region, south of Belgium. Incredible how this animal can be so shy. You need to wait to be in contact with them.

An antlion adult is attracted to a sodium vapor lamp outside of the San Tan Regional Preserve Visitor's Center. 5 Image sloppy focal stack.
The subject deserved more attention, but the hour was late and it was time to head home.

Teasels are thistle-like wild flowers that have long been used in traditional herbal medicine. Teasel root tea was once used to stimulate the appetite, reduce fluid retention and help some liver complaints. Bruised roots were used in an ointment to treat warts, and teasels were even used to ward off witches. The complex pattern seen in this teasel bud is controlled by the same family of genes that controls the layout, not only of all flowers, but of all animal and human bodies as well.
