A typical rambunctious college get-together grew into a massive block party Saturday that 15 police officers and a SWAT vehicle were forced to break up using tear gas and pepper spray.
Known as a something of a party school, Colorado State University is likely no stranger to tamer soirees of 50 or so beer-swilling students.
So nothing seemed out of the ordinary when, at around 8:30pm on April 27, Fort Collins, Colorado police showed up to a party of that size to address a noise complaint.

Police left, but when they came back things had taken a turn.
Though only two hours had passed, when cops came back at 11pm, the group had swelled to a full-on block party with anywhere from 300 to 800 wild students.

Revelers representing a row of six or seven condominiums, just a few blocks from CSU’s campus, yelled ‘F*** the police!’ and ‘Go CSU.’
Eyewitnesses told the CSU college paper the Rocky Mountain Collegian that people were hanging from streetlights, climbing onto house roofs and even the roof of one car that they caused to collapse.
‘I’d call that a riot,’ Ft. Collins police Lt. Russell Reed told the Collegian. ‘When our officers have to use gas to get themselves out of a situation because of the immaturity of the crowd… yeah, that’s a riot.
As police tried to break up what had become dangerous situation, some students’ verbal assaults became physical.

Officers were hit by beer bottles hurled through the air and that’s when they decided to fire cans of tear gas into the crowd.
‘I got gassed so bad,’ said senior Max Firth. ‘I couldn’t see, I couldn’t breathe. I just started running away.’

Ft. Collins police spokeswoman Rita Davis said in a release that three officers incurred minor injuries and were transported to a hospital for treatment.
Students said the party got so unwieldy after news of it spread through social media sites like Facebook.
Lt. Reed said not enough officers were on hand to make any arrests from the huge crowd, but that some of his men recorded the unfortunate incident and plan to use footage to make arrests in the future.
Reed said charges could include inciting destruction of life or property, a class six felony with a minimum sentence of a year in jail, and inciting a riot.

You must remember that this is Colorado where it is now legal to smoke dope and be a dope. Restrict all guns and pass out the dope. I lived in Colorado for almost 20 years and used to miss it until it started to flush itself down the toilet. I pulled all of my business out of that state and many, many more have followed me. Good luck Colorado, you need it.

.....item 2).... Fort Collins officials weigh charges in wild back-to-school party ...

Fort Collins authorities are investigating whether charges should be filed against the managers or owners of an apartment complex where a massive back-to-school party ended with 10 people being taken to the hospital.
Police said between 2,000 and 4,000 people attended the Saturday party, an annual event one resident's father described as "a combination of Woodstock, 'Animal House' and Girls Gone Wild."
Four people — including two Colorado State University football players — were cited and released.
The party started about 1 p.m. at the Campus Crossing at Ram's Pointe apartments, a few blocks from CSU but not affiliated with the university.
It was cut short about two hours later when medical units called to the scene found several people passed out and others vomiting from drinking too much alcohol, police Lt. Russell Reed said Monday.

It took the Police Department's entire day shift, plus night shift officers who were called in early, to help disperse the crowd.
Part of the problem, Reed said, is that news of the party spread via social media and texting. A Facebook page for the event showed nearly 3,000 people indicated they would attend.
"That's the nature of the beast anymore," Reed said. "Years ago, everything was word of mouth. Now you can send a text to 20 people, and then they can text 20 people."
Police and the city attorney's office will discuss whether anyone affiliated with the apartments should be charged with violating the city's ordinance on nuisance gatherings, he said.
A conviction carries a fine of up to ,000, plus possible jail time and community service. Offenders may be held accountable for any damages that occur during an event.
A spokeswoman for the company that owns the complex said the annual event is a charity fundraiser intended to "encourage new students to socialize in a relaxed atmosphere." No alcohol was provided, said spokeswoman Laura Van De Pette.
She also said that property managers took precautions to manage security at the event, but that the crowd was larger than expected.
Police said that James William Skelton, 21, the starting middle linebacker for the Rams, was cited for third-degree assault. Zachary Robert Tiedgen, 21, a backup defensive lineman, was cited for disorderly conduct, police said.
Also cited were Daniel James Rosselot, 20, for third-degree assault, and Dillon James Lawrence, 20, for interfering with a police officer.
CSU football coach Steve Fairchild said Monday that he has been in contact with everyone involved but was still gathering information.
Videos reportedly taken at the party and posted on YouTube show a crowded pool area packed with apparently college-age people, most of them wearing swimsuits, dancing and drinking. Others gathered in a courtyard and on apartment balconies.
CSU dean of students Jody Donovan said the scene looked unsafe. Though the event was not a campus or university event, she said CSU will educate students that "if they're in an unsafe environment, they should leave."
