Melanistic Golden-Mantled Ground Squirrel

A ranger told me that there were still a few of these melanistic squirrels in the park from periods when fires had been frequent. Melanism is just an extreme pigment mutation that causes pronouncedly dark animals. This one was stuffing seeds in its belly. Getting reading for the coming winter.
