A stray dog once again makes itself seen during the Te Deum procession. The horsemen are the Chilean imperial guard of sorts. Anyone know their official name? Following them was the president, Michelle Bachelet.

REINDEER

Reindeer and Caribou are different names for the same species of deer that live in northern Boreal Forest and Arctic Tunda habitats. However, old world races, which includes all domesticated forms, are referred to as Reindeer, with the wild,native North American races being called Caribou. This one, therefore, being on a farm in Utah, must be a Reindeer. The only deer in the world in which the females also have antlers, although mature male antlers are much larger.

New kitties

We went to the Peninsula (San Mateo County) Animal Shelter on Saturday, and came home with these two adorable additions to our family.
We didn't like the names they came with, and they don't seem to respond to them anyway, so we're trying to come up with new ones. The extremely energetic 2-year-old tortie female (formerly "Poof") probably is going to be known as Tiki, and Jeff's still working on a name for the 3-1/2-year-old Maine Coon-mix male (formerly "Fuzz"), who looks a lot like Alex (though his personality almost couldn't be more different).
Update: Tiki for short, her full name is Tiki Barbara, LLD (Hon.)
Hi, my name is Daisy

This is Daisy. I got her from a cat rescue group. She had been living in a laundry room for the past 6 months to be kept away from the other cats.
Her previous owners treated her very badly.
When I went in to meet her she was scared, but warmed up pretty quick.
I knew she would love to come home with me.
The woman who runs the place and 9 other rescue shelters (Nicki) was a charm and gave me a hug for taking Daisy in.
It took about 4 hours before she would come out of hiding to explore her new surroundings.
She is now sleeping comfortably and one would never know she hadn't been here all her life.
She even slept with her head in my hand and paws all outstretched.
I thank Joy for taking me to meet her and now I have a friend for life. Daisy that is...oh yeah maybe Joy too.
Joy just recently got a rescue cat herself in the below photo. that is Tessa, who is also a real darling of a cat.
I threw in the lupine because I have never seen it that colour before.
I have no time to comment as I am off to work in Chilliwack for the next 18 hours.

I barely recognize the computer there... but I believe that is Hades (1995ish-2000ish, and I reused the name for my 2007 computer). I think it's a Pentium-75. As in, Pentium 1 75mHz. I think the hub on top of it -- is so that all 3 computers can share *dialup*. Hades did the dialing. And it was Windows 98. It would crash. This was back when we used ICQ to IM all our friends. Before the IM market got flooded with so many different programs that it became a royal pain in the ass until Trillian came out.

A sergeant, wrapped in his greatcoat against the cold, reading a notice nailed to a tree. The notice reads, 'Kindness to animals, 500 horses lamed weekly by nails dropped on roads and horse lines by cookers carrying firewood with nails left in. Please remove nails'. Much of the firewood used at the Front would have been timber salvaged from ruined buildings, so nails would have been a considerable problem.
The army during World War I was very dependant on horses and mules for transport of guns, ammunition and other heavy goods, as well as for the cavalry. They could not afford needless casualties even though, at the rate of 500 lamed per week, this was still less than one percent of the total of over 2,500,000 horses treated in 1914 alone.

The House Martin (Delichon urbicum), sometimes called the Northern House Martin or Common House Martin, is a migratory passerine bird of the swallow family which breeds in Europe, north Africa and temperate Asia; and winters in sub-Saharan Africa and tropical Asia. It feeds on insects which are caught in flight, and it migrates to climates where flying insects are plentiful. It has a blue head and upperparts, white rump and pure white underparts, and is found in both open country and near human habitation.
Both the scientific and colloquial name of the bird are related to its use of man-made structures. It builds a closed cup nest from mud pellets under eaves or similar locations on buildings usually in colonies, but sometimes fouling below nests can be a problem.

Day Three for Paisley

I've got a few things to update you on for Miss Paisley. First things first: I am certain we are going to keep her. Everyone has fallen in love with her. Especially since, apparently, she's already been potty trained at just 7 weeks!
Second, I've been thinking about renaming her. She doesn't respond to 'Paisley' just yet, so I thought the name Pirate may suit her. Then we would have a Captain Jack named after Captain Jack Sparrow and a puppy named Pirate. Haha, see what I did there?
Third, on just day three, I do believe she has grown comfortable and her full personality has come out, so here's a few facts I've learned about her over the past few days:
1. She's all for cuddles.
2. She still has milk teeth.
3. When you put her in the crate, she does this barking/howling thing that sounds like a Hyena's laugh.
4. The other three dogs have no idea what to do with her.
5. She is curious about everything, but she gets spooked easily.
6. She has become my official shadow. :}
7. Her eyes are extremely bright and reflect the sky every time I look into them.
8. She can make you fall in love with her instantly.
9. She adores the cat and I do believe she is part cat herself.
and 10. SHE NEEDS A BATH! :D
